Did this game die? It's been several months without an update but after playing it again after a couple of years, the main plot hasn't moved forward at all either (although there are clearly other characters introduced), it still ends at the point of selecting your 'team'.
The game did not die and is still in development. The characters you mention are the main plot. You're supposed to get to know everyone and then make decisions on who you'll take across the portal. This game has been a huge undertaking, but rest assured that it is still in development
